explore the past of rusutsu.
Rusutsu originates from the Ainu word Ru-Sutu.
Meaning “Road at the foot of the Mountain”.
The Ainu people were the original inhabitants of Hokkaido. During the Jomon Period (14,500 BC – 300 AD) the Ainu people lived as hunter-gatherers. The isolated location of Hokkaido meant that they remained hunter-gatherers long after the rest of Japan had developed argicultural techniques and trade links.
Rusutsu Tower opened in 1993.
Rebranded in 2016 as The Westin.
At 79 metres in height your Westin room will give you amazing views of the Rusutsu countryside blanketed in snow.
