Rusutsu is world famous for both the quantity and quality of it’s snow. Over 12 metres of snow will fall during the course of the 4 month winter season. An average of 10cm per day. This means that booking your ski holiday is no longer a gamble when your destination is Rusutsu. Not only is there plenty of it, but the quality of this epic quantity of snow only adds to the allure of Rusutsu. It is dry, light, and fluffy. Soft and forgiving for the beginners. Divinely deep for the experts. And perfect for snowballs!

The valleys of Rusutsu provide endless entertainment for avid powder hunters. There are few resorts in the world that provide such ready lift access to their off-piste areas. Moreover the thin Silver Birch trees are excellent for tree skiing. A lack of low hanging branches render even the most densely packed slopes skiable. There is also the added bonus of eliminating the worry of tree wells. The tree strewn slopes of Rusutsu also serve to shelter the ski area from the elements. It is extremely rare to have lift operations suspended due to wind or lose the visibility completely.

Rusutsu boasts the largest single ski area in Hokkaido – 42 kilometres of marked trails, 1,500 acres of un-groomed terrain and an overall lift capacity of 30,300 people per hour! Bizarrely the accommodation available in the resort amounts to little more than 5,000 beds. As a result it is actually impossible for Rusutsu to become crowded. No messing around in queues, you can ski directly onto the lifts. And there will be many a time when you will have the whole trail to yourself.

If you are new to the world of snow-sports then Rusutsu is the perfect place to begin your journey. The quantity and quality of snow will make learning to ski or snowboard significantly easier and certainly less painful. The terrain is ideally suited to improving your technique, with gentle slopes throughout the area, before you know it you will be admiring the view from the peak of Isola.

Rusutsu was first built as a family destination. The resort complex is full of entertainment options for children. The wave pool and gymnasium can entertain even the most energetic of kids. Water slides, table tennis and a climbing wall all add to the fun. Animal lovers can enjoy the Reindeer Park and Dog Sledding. You even have the option to take a dog for a walk. There are also plenty of easy buffet dining options. Octoberfest and the Atrium provide an impressive array of Western, Japanese and Chinese cuisines to satisfy even the most discerning.
